News Pulkit Goyal wins Jeep Compass for topping IOPC Leaderboard By India Poker Championship | 24th July, 2018
The prestigious India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) has just concluded this weekend on The Spartan Poker, with many big winners emerging over the course of those 10 days between 13 and 22 July. A record-breaking INR 7+ crore in prizes was guaranteed during this time period, making it India’s biggest online poker tournament series.
Apart from just tournament winnings that players took away in the 55 scheduled events, there was additional motivation to perform consistently throughout the series. This was the IOPC Leaderboard that awarded INR 30+ lakh in prizes to the top 10 most consistent players during the series.
Pulkit Goyal aka ‘Championplayer’ won three titles through the series and he topped the IOPC Leaderboard, winning a brand-new Jeep Compass from The Spartan Poker. He would’ve been on top of the world with this victory and Gutshot caught up with him to find out the same. Goyal plays a mix of live and online poker and he had all his concentration on the IOPC during these 10 days. “It feels emphatic. Hard work paid off. I’m really happy,” he said about winning the Compass. “The major challenge was with the sleep. Some days, I got less sleep, so had to really concentrate hard,” he added.
“The suspense was on till the last day even though I had the lead. I started out well by winning the second event of the day which was very crucial to lock the Leaderboard. Surely ‘Bikini babe’ and ‘chimpoo’ were the tough competitors,” he said about the leaderboard excitement that was on right till the end.
He also spoke about playing on the virtual felts at Spartan and his plans in poker for the next few months, saying, “The future goals are to keep on improving and working hard on the game. The Spartan Poker is the best for MTT players and the promotions are just awesome.”
Finishing in second on the IOPC Leaderboard was Ashish Munot aka ‘Bikini babe’, who was awarded a stunning Bajaj Dominar to go with INR 2 lakh. In third was Deepak Bothra aka ‘chimpoo’ and Vidwath Shetty aka ‘RoronoA’ finished in fourth place, with both winning goodies as well.
