4 new Champions and INR 5.48 Crores awarded at IPC Sep

4 new Champions and INR 5.48 Crores awarded at IPC Sep

What an incredible week of poker went by at the India Poker Championship! Taking place from 11-15 September in the Spartan LIVE poker room onboard the Big Daddy casino in Goa, the event saw more than 2000 participants come together and create history. All attendance records across events were broken leading to the absolute crushing of the original prizepool guarantee of INR 3 Crores. When all was said and done, prize money worth INR 5.48 Crores was awarded!

IPC 10k Freezeout – Siddharth Mundada

This opening event attracted a record field of 437 entries from which 52 finished in the money and the man standing at the top of heap was Siddharth Mundada. The massive turnout in this 10k Freezeout meant that we couldn’t play down to a winner on the opening day, going into an unofficial second day. Haresh Kukreja was the overnight chip leader among the final nine players and he consolidated that lead early on today, busting out Shane Hodges and Kanishka Samant in the first hand of the day itself. Bust-outs continued over the course of time and soon, Kukreja himself was sent to the rail by Mundada, who of course became our eventual winner.

Mundada has been proving himself as a live player in recent months, having recorded 5 cashes at WSOP 2019 in Las Vegas, with total career cashes of $24k. However, this win in Goa became the largest of his live poker career, earning INR 8,80,000 for this victory, his first major live title too. In heads-up, he was up against Nikhil R, another player who had done brilliantly since yesterday. However, Mundada went into heads-up with a chip lead or nearly 5:1 and it was always going to be difficult for Nikhil to make a comeback from there. Eventually, the 27-year old Mundada emerged winner while Nikhil had to settle for the runner-up prize of INR 6,17,000.

IPC 100k Highroller – Pranay Chawla

This second event of IPC Sep recorded 207 entries which was another record-breaking field. Day 2 resumed on 13 September with 70 players still in contention of winning a massive prize of INR 51+ Lakh, a prize never seen before in a live poker Highroller tournament in India. Slowly but surely, eliminations were taking place, eventually reaching the bubble, with 24 players being paid a min-cash of INR 1.88 Lakh. As the night went on, players kept getting busted and collecting their cash prizes, while Pranay Chawla kept increasing his stack, entering the Final Table as the chip leader. He managed a few more bust-outs and even entered heads-up with the chip lead. We would’ve expected a deal in heads-up considering the massive pay jumps, but that didn’t happen.

The chips went back and forth between Chawla and Nitish Gupta but eventually, it was Pranay Chawla who managed to take away all glory. The Indian poker industry will remember this series for years to come and they will remember Chawla too, who managed to outlast this field full of pros to take away the 100k Highroller title and the enormous cash prize of INR 51,66,800 that came with it.

IPC 35k Main Event – Raj Talwar

And then it was time for the Big One – the Main Event. This INR 35,000 buy-in event had two packed starting flights of Day 1A (390) and Day 1B (387), which saw an incredible 777 entries competing for a prizepool of over INR 2.67 Crores. That figure crushed the original guarantee of INR 1.6 Crores by a cool additional crore, something that even the regs did not expect to happen. In the end however there could be only one and that turned out to be 32-year old Pune businessman Raj Talwar who raked in a phenomenal first place prize of and won the Main Event of this comeback edition of the IPC outlasting a massive field.

Day 2 combined the survivors of both starting flights (82 and 77) bringing them together on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm to play down to one player who would be crowned champion. Three-way action at the final table had Ayush Garg leading with Dhaval Mudgal close behind followed by Talwar on the short stack. Mudgal kept bleeding chips and failed to get any traction and eventually put it in with pocket Threes but got eliminated by Talwar who hit an Ace pair on the turn against Mudgal.Chips kept moving back and forth between Talwar and Garg but eventually Talwar managed to win a couple of pots to take the lead. Eventually he called with Ah 3d on Garg’s Qc 2d on a board of Tc 6h Jd Kd Ts. And with that hand we had a winner in Raj Talwar who took down the biggest ever field for an IPC Main Event, a cool trophy and INR 49.25 Lakhs!

IPC 15k Headhunter – Raghavendra Hada

All good things must come to an end and so it was with this amazing poker festival as the final day of the series saw the culmination of the Main Event as well as the final side event of the series in the Headhunter. This tournament followed the bounty format where for every elimination a player would receive INR 5,000 from his opponent’s buy-in. The Head-Hunter guaranteed INR 17.5 Lakh in prize money but 348 entries crushed it to make the eventual prize pool of INR 34.8 Lakh. It was Raghavendra Hada who went on to win the tournament defeating Arsh Grover in heads-up. Hada walked home with INR 7,39,000 in prize money while also separately cashing out his several bands which represented his bounties from the tournament.

The night only got better for Hada as he was handed over his trophy by none other than the ‘Big Daddy’ of poker, Dan Bilzerian. As for Grover, he began the final table as chip leader but couldn’t go on to complete the victory. Grover was slightly behind at the start of heads-up and ended up finishing second for INR 5,18,200, excluding prizes from bounties.

What a fantastic end to the proceedings and a wonderful comeback for India’s premier tournament in Goa. There was a feeling of excitement in the air right through the 5 days with great turnouts and prizepools expected AND delivered! The presence of Dan Bilzerian certainly added plenty of zing to this edition. Plenty of nostalgia in the air too as the IPC made its return after more than 3 years and many of the poker faithful who were absent from the scene came together to be a part of these festivities. So a terrific week of poker with many crores in prizes given away and four new IPC title winners crowned.

The IPC will return in the new year specifically from 14-19 January and we will see you at these felts again for another record breaking event! Until then…

The Main Event which features a buy-in of INR 35,000, and a guarantee of over INR 1.60 Crores, is a 3 day affair with two starting flights taking place on Friday and Saturday evening respectively. It will all come to an end on Sunday night where not only will we see the newest Main Event champion being crowned but the series will also culminate with the final tournament i.e. the 15k Headhunter. All in all, plenty of live tournament poker action can be expected and there is every likelihood of previous attendance records being broken. “In the 2015-16 season, every edition we did, raised the bar higher in the terms of player participation. It’s been a while since we were away but during this time, we’ve always been asked about when the IPC will return? We certainly hope to repeat our past success and go beyond with this upcoming edition of the IPC,” said IPC co-founder Sameer Rattonsey.

Mind blowing 11 Crores GTD in IOPC July!

Mind blowing 11 Crores GTD in IOPC July!

It’s that time of the year again when the biggest online poker series of India hits the virtual felts at SpartanPoker.com. And this time it’s even bigger! That’s right… a massive, mouth-watering 11 Crores is up for grabs in guaranteed prizepools at the upcoming India Online Poker Championship (IOPC). Taking place at SpartanPoker.com from 14-28 July at SpartanPoker.com, the IOPC will feature a staggering 82 tournament events all of which will carry a guaranteed prizepool across different buy-ins and formats. There will also be an IOPC leaderboard in play for all participating players worth INR 30 Lakhs. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights of the series:-

Features

Unlike previous editions, this IOPC will begin on a Sunday i.e. 14 July with a minimum of 54 Lakhs being given away on the first day itself of the series. As before, Spartan has incorporated many of its marquee tournaments into its IOPC schedule and most will carry a bigger guarantee than usual. So players can participate in juicier tournaments like the Destiny, Sunday SuperStack, Headhunter, WTF, Elite, Big Daddy, Highrollers and more.

Return of the Millionaire

The tournament that put Spartan on the Indian online poker map is its signature tournament called the Millionaire, promising a 7-figure payday to the winner and second place finisher as well. This time around the Millionaire returns after a break in the IOPC schedule with a exciting 2 crore guaranteed prizepool for a buy-in of INR 11,000. There will be six starting flights for this super event starting from 24 July every evening at 6:00 pm with the Day 2 finale to be completed on the last day of the series i.e. 28 July. In the last edition of the Millionaire, which took place in January 2019, Jai ‘Joey’ Saha walked away with a massive 25 Lakhs for his victory while another of the top online talents in the country, Ashish Munot score 14.70 Lakhs for his runner-up finish. While those numbers look fantastic, one key thing sets this edition apart. This time’s guarantee is double at 2 Crores which means the winner is likely looking at a payday of well over 30 Lakhs! This tournament will be one of the top favourites of anyone who is participating in this time’s IOPC series.

IOPC Hi-Fi

All Monday-Saturdays of the series will see the Daily Hi-Fi morph into the IOPC Hi-Fi where most buy-ins will be around the INR 2,500 mark and having guarantees ranging from 6 Lakhs to 12.5 Lakhs. The final IOPC Hi-Fi will take place on 27 July with a amazing 18 Lakhs prizepool and a buy-in of INR 6,600.

IOPC Leaderboard

All participating players in the IOPC can also earn big bucks by doing well and scoring points towards the IOPC Leaderboard. With 30 Lakhs on offer, everyone will be gunning for the top prize of a brand new luxury automobile called the MG Hector. You may have their commercials recently on air featuring Benedict Cumberbatch. Well if its good enough for Dr. Strange, it certainly will do just fine for the player who eventually tops the leaderboard. Even finishing among the top 10 point places, will assure these winners a share of the 30 Lakhs in cold, hard cash.

Satty your way in

While Spartan Poker is well known for its tournament offerings like the Spartan Super Series and the Little Big Series, those do cater to a slightly lower set of buy-ins. The IOPC overall has bigger buy-ins but don’t let that turn you off. You can satellite your way into many of the top tournaments on schedule by participating in the IOPC Super Sattys. A satellite is a tournament where you play for a fraction of the original buy-in and depending on the satty turnout, one or more players could win tickets into the top notch IOPC tournaments. Check out the satty schedule below the event schedule image below.

The month of July is going to pring up plenty of title winners and multiple lakhs in winning amounts to plenty of players from the Indian poker circuit. Will you be one of those players? Will you be the one who drives away a brand new Hector MG?! Only one way to find out – by participating in the India Online Poker Championship exclusively at SpartanPoker.com. First IOPC of 2019 a smashing success; more than 10 Crores awarded!

First IOPC of 2019 a smashing success; more than 10 Crores awarded!

Every mid to high-stakes poker player in the country would’ve been licking their lips thinking about the exciting month of January lined up on The Spartan Poker. Apart from a fantastic Rewards Plus system for cashback and a chance to fly to Las Vegas, Spartan also launched another edition of the India Online Poker Championship (IOPC).

Already the biggest online poker series in the country, this edition of the IOPC took place between 11-20 January 2019, breaking its own record and promising a total of INR 8.5+ crore in series guarantees. Recently, this series came to an end with the IOPC Main Event taking place, another record-breaker, with an INR 1.5 Crore prize pool.

This became the biggest ever single online poker tournament in the country, and Ashish Munot ended victorious earlier yesterday, taking home a gigantic cash prize of INR 37.5 Lakh. Another hugely successful tournament was the Super High Roller where Gokul Raj won INR 28+ Lakh while Joey Saha emerged victorious in The Millionaire for INR 25 Lakh.

Talking about winning The Millionaire victory, Saha said, “The experience was great. This is my biggest score till date. I was in for I think 8 or 9 rebuys so was really happy to at least break even. Running deep in these massive events is always a sick experience and these are the moments we play this game for. This is a great start to 2019 and hopefully just the start of things to come.”

Overall, the series ended as a fantastic one for the players, as well as for The Spartan Poker. While there were overlays in The Millionaire and the Main Event, the advertised series guarantee was crushed, with more than INR 10 crores being given away in total cash prizes, as compared to the INR 8.5 crore promise.

Along with the cash prizes given away, a spectacular prize of INR 30+ Lakh was up for grabs on the IOPC Leaderboard, including a stunning new Skoda Octavia to the one who finished first. Leaderboards are for the most consistent players and it was no surprise that Akshay Nasa aka ‘sherlock52’ won this competition, ensuring himself a brand-new ride!

Spartan is an industry leader when it comes to online poker in India and they have proved this yet again with this recent edition of the IOPC, which concluded yesterday. This was the first IOPC of the year and poker enthusiasts will look forward to the next edition, where we can only imagine what the guarantee could be.
